Packaging prototypes often need the same cut repeated across cards, inserts, labels or belly bands. A trimmer is valuable when it holds that dimension consistently and lets the material sit square. A large cutting capacity means little if the guide flexes or the printed mark is difficult to see.

Begin with the largest everyday sheet and the thickest everyday material. Heavy board, laminated paper and stacked sheets create different loads. A trimmer should be chosen for its normal use, not the most optimistic maximum listed on the box.

Some coated papers chip or compress differently depending on blade travel and face orientation. Test the visible side first.

For prototypes, accuracy and replacement support usually matter more than headline sheet capacity.
